Welcome to our new digital studios through Zoom, the industry’s leading video conferencing platform! There are a few key features to note when it comes to launching your Core to Coeur classes. To start, make sure you know the answers to the following two questions:
- What device are you using (laptop/PC, mobile phone, iPad/tablet)?
- Are you using Zoom through a browser (ie. Google chrome, Safari, Internet Explorer, Firefox etc.) or are you using the Zoom app?
We HIGHLY recommend that you have the Zoom app on whatever device it is you want to join class. Download Zoom for your laptop/PC here, or find it in your app store. NOTE: you must have the Zoom app downloaded if you plan to take or teach class from your iPad/tablet or mobile device! If you need to download, please be sure you have ample time between now and your class start time to allow for the program to complete downloading.
The next thing to understand is the different video layout options. You’ll see our recommendations depending on the device you use.
Video layouts in Zoom
- Active Speaker — this is the default video layout. It will switch the large video window between who is speaking. Whoever is speaking will be presented in the larger view.
- Gallery view — this view lets you see thumbnail displays of everyone in the studio in a grid pattern, which expands and contracts as participants join and leave the session. Each thumbnail will be equal in size, meaning your teacher and your classmates will all appear the same size, regardless of who is speaking.
- Pin video —this allows you to view only a specific speaker, we recommend you Pin your instructor’s video. Don’t worry, this will only affect your local view, not the view of other students in class or your instructor’s ability to see you.
- Spotlight video — this is something only the teacher can do for the class. This will make your teacher’s window the primary video (just like pin video), and the other class participants will be small. Want to view everyone equally? You can always opt for gallery view even in spotlight mode.
Zoom from your PC/laptop — with the Zoom app
This is the version you will use if you have previously downloaded Zoom onto your laptop/PC. This is one of the smoothest ways to enter class.
To Launch Class — laptop/PC (Zoom desktop app)
- Log in to your account at www.coretocoeur.com through a web browser (safari, chrome, etc.).
- Click on the “Launch Upcoming Class” button, the red one at the top of the screen. Your Zoom application will automatically open.
- You may be prompted to wait until the host lets you in. This is a great time to make sure your camera can see all of you on your mat!
- Once you’re in, your browser might prompt you to allow microphone and video options. You can always manually allow this from the zoom room from the bottom left hand corner with the microphone and video icons.
Changing the video layout — laptop/PC (Zoom desktop app)
- Start by enabling full screen mode by clicking the 4 corners icon in the top right hand corner of your screen
- Our Recommendation STUDENTS: Pin the video of your instructor. You can do this by hovering over their window, click on the three dots icon and choose Pin Video. This way, if you start talking, your teacher will still be the largest screen you see. Read more about how to do this here.
- Our recommendation for TEACHERS: use spotlight mode by clicking on the participants icon on the toolbar, click on your name, click spotlight video. For more directions, click here.
Zoom from your PC/laptop — using a web browser
This is the version you will use if you use your laptop or desktop computer to take class AND you have NOT downloaded Zoom as a separate program.
To Launch Class — from your PC/laptop browser
- Log in to your account at www.coretocoeur.com through a web browser (safari, chrome, etc.).
- Click on the “Launch Upcoming Class” button, the red one at the top of the screen. You will be asked to either download the Zoom app to your computer (NOT recommended if you are starting class in 15 minutes or less). Instead, we recommend you click the link that says “join from your browser”.
- Your video will launch as soon as the teacher (aka “the host”) is there to let you in.
- Once you’re in, your browser might prompt you to allow microphone and video options. You can always manually allow this from the zoom room from the bottom left hand corner with the microphone and video icons.
Changing the video layout — from your laptop/PC browser
- Our recommendation for STUDENTS: Pin the video of your instructor. You can do this by hovering over their window, right click and select “Pin Video”. This will keep them the primary person you view, even if others in the studio are talking. Read more about how to do this here.
- Our recommendation for TEACHERS: use spotlight mode by clicking on the three dots icon on your video window, then click spotlight video. For more directions, click here. Can’t see any icons? Tap your screen once, and you should see the icons pop up.
